 ESPERIENZE DI RICERCA

Terry Davies was born in 1961 in Shrewsbury in the UK. His apprenticeship as a ceramist began in the late 1970s in a workshop that followed the tradition of Bernard Leach. He gained further artistic training during his extensive travels: he has lived and worked in the French pottery village of Laborne in France, in Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Italy. Since the early 2000s, he has been living and working in the Tuscan countryside near Certaldo, where he created his workshop.
He's currently specialized in the creation of individual one-off stoneware artworks. These are wheel thrown; during this process, the damp clay is gently stretched, creating breaks and cracks in the dry surface. When fired at high temperatures in a reduction atmosphere, the surface of the porcelain and stoneware clays becomes rich in colour and texture, and takes on a craquelé appearance.
